Tips for Making Healthful Choices

You know the basics when it comes to making healthful choices, but I want to help you further by putting different kinds of foods, and even specific products, onto your radar screen. These shopping tips will help you find foods that are not just nutritious but taste delicious—and that’s key. Ultimately, you’re not going to eat the healthy foods you buy unless they’re appealing. To make eating well a lifelong habit, you have to get satisfaction, not just nutrients, from food.

Finding Great Fruits and Vegetables

Venturing outside the box. Some of the problems people have with getting enough fruits and vegetables into their diet have to do with the boredom factor—they limit themselves to a very small range of options (fruit is an apple or orange, vegetables are iceberg lettuce and tomatoes). I urge you to branch out by trying things you don’t usually buy. Tired of carrots and celery for snacks? Why not keep sliced bell peppers on hand instead? Spinach is not the only green that makes a good side dish. You may find that the earthier flavors of kale and Swiss chard appeal to you. Have you ever tried kiwi or papaya for breakfast instead of half a cantaloupe? For the most part, fruits and vegetables bought in season are relatively inexpensive, so experimenting won’t be too costly. #xa0;
